Sweet and Sour homemade Chinese Meat Balls.

Today’s lunch is home baked water kefir bread with homemade almond butter and jelly sandwich, grapes, veggie straws and blueberry water kefir.

@jolingx asked me if the bread is soft. Is still soft the next day.

HAD to eat this combination for breakfast. LOVE LOVE this combo. Malaysian coffee with home baked water kefir bread, homemade kaya and homemade pork floss. heaven!

Craving for something Chinese. Decided to make sweet and sour but I know Mr.4 would be picky with the meat so I used ground pork and ground turkey to make homemade Chinese meat balls with sweet and sour sauce. Fried 8 eggs for dinner. I ate 2 and the kids ate the rest. Luckily my eggs are all organic from the farm because when my boys eat eggs they eat a lot of it!! lol

The  meatballs was a hit in my household even with my self proclaimed vegetarian (Mr.4) and the hubs. I find that my sauce was a tad sour and the kids didn’t care for it although I already added more sugar.

Homemade Chinese Meatballs

Ingredients

1lbs of ground pork (with some fats to balance the poultry)

1lbs of ground turkey or chicken

2 tsp of white pepper (to taste)

1 tsp of five spiced powder (Mine wasn’t very strong so I put more)

1.5 tbsp of soy sauce

1-2 tsp of fish sauce

2 tsp of garlic powder

1-2 tsp of ginger powder (mine is the real deal my mom dried and ground it up for me so is very strong)

2 tsp of dry minced onion

2 tsp of sesame oil

Method

  1. Mix the meat with the spices and let it sit for 30 mins.
  2. Wet your hands and shape it into balls. Wetting your hands to handle the meat makes it much easier to handle so I have a bowl of water by my side when my hands gets dry I will dip it in the water.
  3. Fry in the pan until it turns golden brown.

For the sweet and sour sauce is still trial and error so I won’t be posting the recipe for it yet until I find the perfect one.

    • Thanks for sharing!! I did use a little vinegar but I think if you are using plum sauce it gives that slightly tangy flavor already? Honestly I’ve never bought plum sauce before lol. Will need to try your recipe some day!
